The lamp is made of porcelain clay. When thin and fired to high temperatures, porcelain becomes translucent. This is due to its high silica content in the clay, a glass-like mineral from the earth (like quartz!).

The Lamp is made using the slipcasting method:

1. Liquified clay (aka slip) is poured into plaster molds.

2. The plaster quickly absorbs the moisture of the clay, leaving the clay to harden against all of the plasters' surfaces.

3. After some time, any clay not hardened is poured out. The longer the time you leave slip sitting in the mold, the thicker the walls of the form will become.

4. After some more time, the molds are opened and a hollow form is revealed — and usually in need of some trimming.

The Lamp is available primarily as a Made to Order piece, with orders opening monthly. Once ordered, lead times are 2-4 weeks in addition to estimated delivery times.

Occasionally, Lamps are available as Ready to Ship. In this case lead times are 1-3 business days in addition to estimated delivery times.
